The evolution of the newspaper has been somewhat slow and leisurely. If we compare newspapers from back in the day until now, not much has changed, other than the typeface. The iPad has definitely changed the way we view our news nonetheless, and this new concept can ultimately be a game changer.
Manny Darden, Jae Kim and Scott Liao created a prototype of what they call the “Adaptive Delivery Device,” which essentially makes the newspaper an e-reader of sorts. One of the coolest features of this product is its bendable texture. As seen in the video above, the information is dynamic and the interface is touchscreen. Allowing one to flip through the different columns on an e-reader is pretty impressive.
The designers really wanted to bring that newspaper feel to the customer without having to put all this information in a tablet. Many of us can liken this new concept to the movie Minority Report, in which Tom Cruise flips through the pages of a USA Today using a device similar to this “Adaptive Delivery Device.” The battle of e-readers continues to heat up with the iPad in the lead, and the Kindle and Nook trailing not too far behind. It’ll be interesting to see if this new device will create its own lane?
