Remember those auto lacing shoes Marty McFly used to sport on “Back to the Future?” Well Nike has decided to patent the “2015 Nike Air.” Although no word on when the shoe’s are set to come out, many are anticipating that these will be the most technologically advanced shoes ever. Over the years Nike has been notorious in upping the ante of shoe technology. From the air bubble 80′s to the Shox craze in the early 00′s, Nike has always had a knack for producing the future in shoes.

The resurgence of the 80s in today’s fast paced, pop-driven culture is evident in more ways than one. 3D movies, tight jeans and studded leather jackets are all the rave. Arcades are probably the only outlier in this 80′s revival.

Today’s younger generation will definitely jump on the auto-lacing kicks. It’s a revolution in footwear design and could potentially mean millions for Nike. I wonder why it took them this long to patent. According to the document, Nike submitted the patent in November of 09′ and are now the certified owners. We’ll likely see other competitors in the field produce similar technologies. Due to the fact that Nike’s patent is highly specific, competitors will have the opportunity to play with the design a lot more.
